WUBET I
On October 18, 2003, a fashion exhibition took place at Zoma
Contemporary Art Center in Jara Park. Arnold Haas, an Austrian born
designer who came to Ethiopia from New York to study traditional
Ethiopian textiles, collected a variety of textiles from all over the country
and created extravagant and colorful styles of fashion. Fascinated by the
beauty of traditional Ethiopian patterns, he mixed and matched the
various types to create modern outfits that could be worn worldwide.
Meskerem curated the show as a performance contemporary art,
different from traditional walkways. The models were selected from all
walks of life representing the variety of beauty found all over Ethiopia.
